Thank you Mommy, Love Daddy
There is so much to say thank you for. Long before our little nugget was even born, you begin your sacrifice. Starting with a comfortable sleep. The tiny human inside of you was punching and kicking places that you never knew existed. Urinating became the most frequent activity of the day or night. Not to mention the sore feet, back pain, and difficulty doing basic activities… as the trimesters progressed, these all became a struggle.
Then there was the birth of our son. Without getting all graphical here I will say that it was both amazing and tough. It is an incredible process, and revealed to me that mothers everywhere are so hardcore! No matter if they pushed their little one out or had a c-section, Thank you! Thank you to not only my wife, but to all mothers. However your birth story unfolded, you brought life into this world and you are amazing!
Motherhood, it’s a beautiful thing. It’s a huge task where the reward is seeing a little infant that would struggle to survive on their own, turn into a small person. They grow and grow until your precious one becomes a full fledged adult.
To my dear wife, you had the daunting task of teaching our little one how to eat (read more about my wife’s breastfeeding journey). It was a new journey that no book, class or YouTube video was able to completely prepare you for. As a father this is something that I desperately wanted to help with, but I could only do so much. I did my best by learning about breastfeeding, something I never thought I would learn. Learning about latch and positioning was so interesting. It also helped me to gently remind you of what to try next when the going got tough. When you were feeling frustrated because you were in pain or our son wasn’t eating I was right there with you, to support you in the best way I could. Thank you for giving this gift!
We definitely didn’t become parents for the gratitude that we will receive. I will be pleasantly surprised if some magical day our son walks up to you or me, gives us a big hug and says “thank you”. At that moment I think I will probably be like, “f### yeah, we are the best parents ever!”
There are countless ways that you have given selflessly to our son, and countless times that you will again. For each and every time, Thank you!
To all the Daddies out there – If you have a baby, too young to go up to their mommy and give them a big hug and thank them for doing everything they do, then it is up to you to do that for them. To my beautiful and amazing wife, thank you for making me a dad and doing everything you do!
